The SEA Young Leaders Program, founded in July 2023, aims to foster equitable access to STEM research and education for women and children from underserved communities in South-East Asia, with a focus on children in Singapore. Despite the significant progress made in various sectors, gender and socioeconomic gaps persist in accessing quality STEM education, limiting the potential of talented individuals and in turn, hindering overall development. This initiative seeks to address this issue with a multi-faceted approach that focuses on project-based learning, soft skills development, and mentorship programs.
The goal of this project is to transcend the boundaries of school curricula, which often limits students to theoretical learning in India, and explore the vibrant possibilities of science and technology through immersive education. Furthermore, it aspires to create a community of like-minded students who are enthusiastic about problem-solving and innovation, believing that opportunities in STEM should be available to all talented youngsters, regardless of their gender or socioeconomic background.
It will attempt to do this by rendering accessible STEM resources such as the Learn to Lead Curriculum, which will detail fundamental topics in Chemistry and Robotics. This resource will go on to prove valuable for students participating in the SEA Challenges and the SEA Change Academy, both of which are dedicated to inculcating a comprehensive knowledge of STEM topics and methodologies through a creative, project-based learning environment. This will also be coupled with a fundraiser to facilitate the procurement of a digital infrastructure that would render the SEA Young Leaders resources, and other online educational repositories accessible to those who might not otherwise have access to them.
